July 2nd
1993 was an interesting day for me:( It was my first experience with the death of a close family member, and in the end the way I dealt with it was, well like an eighteen year old. Love you Nana!
I found an old photo of me & my grandparents - circa 1975 or so:)

Today's Quote
The trick is in what one emphasizes.
We either make ourselves miserable,
or we make ourselves strong.
The amount of work is the same.
We either make ourselves miserable,
or we make ourselves strong.
The amount of work is the same.
Carlos Castaneda, 1925-1998

A Prayer
Hear our humble prayer, O God for our friends the animals and especially for animals who are suffering, for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death. We entreat for them all thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart and compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and to share the blessing of the merciful. - Albert Schweitzer

One of the hardest days of my life is coming, but I need to do it for her. I'll be signing off for a few days.

Busy, Busy Day. And an update on Lucy.
It was a day that never ended!! (well until I passed out on the couch and DH woke me up to go to bed!)
Worked came home to the greyhound, not wanting to greet me, nor had she ate her milk bones today. I knew she was sore in the morning, but when I got home and saw this, I thought for sure I was experiencing yet another episode of "Greyhound and the Blood Blisters" Read Here for those gory details. I got her up (with my help) told myself NOT to panic. And slowly, and surely we made it outside. It took a really long time, and I felt evil when I heard her whimpering, but we did make it outside to go potty. I then re-traced our slow steps to get inside, tried to get her to drink and eat (No way! She said.) and then covered her up with her favorite blankie on her dog bed. I went upstairs and and "released" the crazy hound, Max. After taking him outside, she was still whimpering, so I called our vet. Had to fill them in on the happenings in our Household (they were on vacation last time) and they had me bring Lucy in. Long story short, Dr. Hamilton explained all the blood tests to me, (Dr. Kimball was kind enough to fax them the info, I  vets that share!!) and Lucy got a cortisone shot for her leg. So Dr Hamilton agrees that the bruising I described (plus the pictures) were consistent with falling down the stairs (I think) or Max pounding the crap outta her (very possible). I'm still going to give her the Vitamin K pills for another week so her body does not stress out, but I will be starting her on aspirin on damp days, when I think she'll be bad. I'm already starting to notice the signs, but with the recent fall, I think thats why she hurts so bad. (its only been 10 or so days). So there you go, more $$ spent on the greyhound. I'm starting to joke that my work should just make out my check to the vets office!
I made it home in time to make some dinner and then head out the door to my LSS for another Christmas Card Class with Sherle. Again, I had a blast making 15 cards in less than an hour, and I'll post pictures later.

Jesse wrote Lucy Back!
Lucy and Mommie,
We are glad to hear everything is going to be okay. Mommie has no need to feel bad. Max can wait for Daddy. When someone is hurt that is the most important thing. I know we both have the BEST Mommies, just ask all the people who think they are nuts because they love us sooooo much.Your bruises look a lot like mine from my operation if you look at the pics. I hope they did not hurt too much. I hope Mommie can find out what you ate so it will never happen again.
Daddy took me for a ride in the van last nite. I even got to bark at four other pups who were walking on the trail. I can not wait to be able to get outside again. Mommie keeps saying soon, soon, but how long is soon?
I want to run! I want to jump! I want my BENCH!
Get lots of rest and have a great weekend.
Lol Jessie and Mommie.

Lucy loves to scare me.
She really scared the crap outta me yesterday after work. I worried about her all day, as I thought she was having some arthritis issues. When I came home and coaxed her out of bed, I realized she had blood blisters on her belly. So off to the vets we went. I did not even let Max out first - I was so scared. (Plus I knew Mike was on his way home - but looking back, I'm not even sure that really made a difference. Maybe I'm a bad furmom? Guilty conscience I guess.)
Lucy went through a bunch of tests, and the best guess is that she fell down the stairs yesterday, as long as the tests come back good today. Its insane. So last night Lucy wrote a letter to her friend Jessie. (I know, I'm really losing it...lol) Jessie is pictured here in this LO.

Dear Jessie,
I scared the crap outta Mom today! The vet thinks I went upstairs to see Max and fell down the stairs, but I'll never tell exactly what I did!! Mom came home and saw the blood bruises on my belly and took me to the vet. It was fun there, lots of nice people. They took some blood and ran a bunch of tests, and as long as Mom doesn't get a call at work tommorrow, then they think I either fell, or Max beat me up. So far no blood issues, liver or kidney damage. Oh and I'm pretty sure I did not eat any rat poison too. But I gave Mom a couple more gray hairs, and ran her charge card up. Thats what girls do best right Jessie? Run the charge cards up? hehe I saw Mom tear up the garage tonight, not sure why she found my old baby gate......I'll tell you when I know more!
I better go before Mom catches me up and walking around. Got orders to sleep!! (like thats so hard to do....)
Love Lucy Sue.
